Agile Segment Architecture

- Background:  With the increased demand for better government performance and transparency, recent directives out of the White House have required agencies to meet mandates at a more rapid pace than in the past. The Open Government Directive set out 45-, 60- and 90-day deadlines while the Federal Data Center Consolidation initiative includes a detailed plan to dramatically reduce IT operations among more than 1,100 data centers. As a result, enterprise architects are forced to use an agile segment architecture approach in adapting change. This session will examine how enterprise architects can leverage the Federal Segment Architecture Methodology (FSAM) to create an agile horizontal architecture to reduce time of delivery, collaborate with business leaders, conduct the engineering of reuse and consolidation, and earn buy-in from stakeholders via governance and compliance to deliver immediate business results.

- Learning Objectives:  How to use the FSAM to execute an enterprise system development project with agility to meet business requirements within schedule and budget; What gaps exist in the current version of the methodology to deliver agile segment architecture; What lessons learned should be considered for future iterations of the FSAM, or for agencies about to launch their own segment architecture efforts
